Harland Adelbert Saulter, 98, passed away Monday September 11, 2017 at Sanford Memorial Hospital, Sanford, NC. 

Harland was born in Coudersport, PA on July 6, 1919, the son of George Saulter, Sr and Annabelle (Blow) Saulter.  On August 14, 1939, he married Marjorie Mae Hillegas.

In 1946, Harland sold his farm on Greenman Hill and took his family to Prairie Bible Institute, Three Hills, Alberta, Canada to study for the ministry.  In 1947 he started a church ministry in a small schoolhouse in Axville, NY which is now the Conewango Baptist Church in Conewango, NY.  He then pastored the Baptist Church in Pine Valley, NY. 

In 1955, he purchased the Saulter family farm and moved back to Coudersport.  During this time, he continued to preach in many of the area churches filling the pulpits for pastors.  As a farmer, he was well respected in his leadership role serving on the board of The Federal Land Bank for several years.  He was a well known advocate for the agricultural community.

His wife Marjorie, passed away in 2002.  He married Maisie Cross and moved to Sanford, NC where he was involved in ministering, along with his wife, in local churches and nursing homes. 

Harland is survived by his wife Maisie Saulter of Sanford, NC; two sons and one daughter; Robert Saulter and wife T’Lene of Savannah, GA, Joseph Saulter and partner  Todd Bartholomew of Greenwood, NY and Gloria Smith of Robinson, IL; seven grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren; three brothers, Everett Saulter of Coudersport, Clifton Saulter of Coudersport, Lavern Saulter and wife Betty of Coudersport and one sister-in-law, Arlene Saulter of Coudersport.

Harland is preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie, father George Saulter, Sr, mother Annabelle Saulter, brothers Clair Saulter, Donald Saulter, George Saulter, Jr, Lester Saulter, and sisters Georgeanna Knight and Jane Yardley.

Contributions in memory of Harland may be sent to the Hebron Center Christian School.   A memorial service will be held in the near future.
