Vera E. McConnell, 96, of Coudersport, died Monday, October 18, 2021 at her residence.
Vera was born on February 13, 1925, in Conifer, NY, the daughter of the late Arthur S. and Esther L. (Schoonover) Whitney. She married Robert B. McConnell on October 12, 1946 and celebrated 41 years of marriage until his passing on November 11, 1987.
Vera graduated from Coudersport High School and over the years worked for; Galeton Productions, Goodrich Ford Motor Co., Coudersport Borough as the Borough Secretary, MHMR Mental Health, Coudersport, and as a financial secretary for Pennsylvania Lumber Museum Association.
Vera attended the Sartwell Creek Union Church where she also sang in the choir. She was the Treasure of the Central Grange, one of the founders of the Potter Tioga Maple Producers Association, one of the founders of the Maple Festival with her husband, Robert. She loved collecting stamps, quilting and spending time with her family.
Vera is survived by seven children, Robert (Toni Marzola) McConnell of Ithaca; Elaine (Charlie) Karichner of Mill Hall; Patricia Kaple of Olean; Jeffrey A. McConnell of Coudersport; Susan (Tim) Watson of Coudersport; Karen “Midge” Ingalls of Mechanicsburg; and Melody (Kurt) Smith of McElhattan; sisters, Leah (Phil) Kio of Roulette; Beverly Anderson of Prairie du Chien, WI; 30 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Vera was preceded in death by sons, Rex Arthur McConnell and Dean Forest McConnell, brothers, Erwin and DeForest Whitney, sisters, Norma Varney, Florence Beach, Alice Work, and four grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects November 6, 2021 from 11:00am to 1:00 pm at the Gospel Tabernacle, 420 Route 6 West, Coudersport. Vera’s funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm with Pastor Allen Long, officiating. Burial will be in Eulalia Cemetery.
The family suggest contributions in Vera’s name be made to the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum, 5660 US Route 6, Ulysses, PA 16948 or to the Sartwell Creek Union Church, 980 Sartwell Creek Road, Port Allegany, PA 16743.
