Josephine A. “Joey” Corey, 87, of Sweden Valley, passed away Sunday, May 9, 2021 at her home.
Joey was born on November 15, 1933 in Limestone, NY, the daughter of the late Joseph and Antoinette (Naples) Yannie. She married Paul M. Corey, on November 1, 1952 at the Faith United Methodist Church, Sweden Valley, and they celebrated 67 years of marriage before his passing on February 28, 2020.
Joey was a beloved wife and mother who cherished time with her children, grandchildren, and extended family. She shared a love of golf with her husband Paul and was a club champion golfer at the Coudersport Golf Club as well as member for over 50 years. Joey also enjoyed quilting, reading, gardening, bird watching, baking and knitting. Joey worked several years at Pure Carbon before being employed by the Coudersport Area School District where she retired after 18 years of service. She had a strong faith and was a dedicated member and volunteer to the Faith United Methodist Church of Sweden Valley.
Surviving are two sons, Glenn A. (the late Diane) Corey of Rocky Mount VA and Dennis P. (Wendy) Corey of Williamsport; two daughters, Linda L. Corey of Butler, Pa, and Loriann (James) Bollhorst of Coudersport; grandchildren, Stephanie (Richard) Blair, Elizabeth (James) Norton, Lori (Dan) Glant, Jason (Jamie) Corey, Aaron Corey, Jamie (Matthew) Turner, Emily (Daniel) Daugherty, Alyson Corey, Christopher (Amy) Foust, Jennifer (Grant) Brown, Koriann (Thomas Kisiel) Bollhorst; 20 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild; a brother, Lawrence (Beth) Yannie, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Joey was preceded in death by sisters, Louise Camp, Mary Mitchell, Leona Shaver, Lucy White, and Ann Long and brothers, John, Alex, and Paul Yannie.
A Memorial service will be held, Saturday, July 3, 2021, at 10:00 am at the Sweden Valley Faith United Methodist Church, 1450 E 2nd St. Coudersport, PA, with Rev. Scott Ogden and Rev. Tom Shateo co-officiating. Burial will follow in Sweden Hill Cemetery. A time of fellowship and sharing will follow at 12:30 pm with a luncheon at the Coudersport Golf Club (839 Cherry Springs Rd, Coudersport, PA) to celebrate the lives of both Joey and Paul Corey. Their family invites those who attend to bring a memory to share during that time.
The family suggest memorial contributions in Joey’s name be made to the Coudersport Golf Club, 839 Cherry Springs Rd, Coudersport, PA 16915 or to the Sweden Valley Faith United Methodist Church, 1450 East Second St., Coudersport, PA 16915.
The family has entrusted the Thomas E. Fickinger Funeral Home 210 North East St. Coudersport, PA 16915 with her arrangements.
