Elizabeth J. VanBergen

Our beloved mother, Elizabeth J. “Betty” VanBergen, 90, of Coudersport, passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at UPMC-Cole, surrounded by loving family.

Betty was born on September 8, 1930 in Coudersport, the daughter of the late Floyd and Cecil (Kent) Haskins.  She married Marcellus W. “Mike” VanBergen, and they celebrated 35 years of marriage before his passing on April 4, 1984.  She is survived by her companion of 32 years, Richard Blackman of Coudersport.

Betty worked many years for Midland Optical, Coudersport, and then later at the former Mickey’s Dinner, Coudersport.  She also was a babysitter for many families in the area.  She loved children and her family.   

Surviving are three sons, Michael W. (LouAnn) VanBergen of Ocola, FL; Merle L. and Rex A. VanBergen both of Coudersport;  three daughters, Joanne T. (Ronald) Morey of Coudersport; Patricia J. (Don) Schoonover of Ulysses; and Sandra L. (Al) Lewis of Roulette; a sister, Gladys Haskins of Coudersport; sister-in-laws, Jane Haskins of Coudersport; and Alice Haskins of Canandaigua, NY; nine grandchildren, Angela Walter, Amber Jackson, Gregg Morey, Sheela Keck, Marcy Weiss, Kelly Heimel, Tameca Sorg, Jacob VanBergen and Chelsea VanBergen, 16 grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. 

In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by five brothers; Ralph, Arnie, Lloyd, Pete and James Haskins and two sisters; Isabel LaJoie and Anna Welsh. 

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects Monday, August 9, 2021 from 12 to 2pm at the Thomas E. Fickinger Funeral Home, 210 N. East Street, Coudersport, a funeral service will follow at 2pm with Pastor John Minor, officiating.  A burial will be in Eulalia Cemetery. 

The family suggest memorial contributions in Betty’s name be made to The Coudersport Volunteer Fire Department, 171 Port Allegany Rd, Coudersport, PA 16915 or the Coudersport Volunteer Ambulance Association, 122 E 2nd St, Coudersport, PA 16915
