Edmund Zigmond “Eppie” Lacher, 90, of Roulette, passed away January 17, 2021 at his home. He was born on July 25, 1930 in Pittsburgh, the son of the late Edmund John and Alice (Mitosiewski) Lacher.
Eppie was a graduate of Roulette High School, Class of 1948 where he finished in the top ten of his class, a graduating class of nine students. After graduation he returned to Pittsburgh where he attended a trade school for plumbing. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1952 and served until 1954 as a Lance Corporal working with water filtration at Camp Lejeune, NC and was in the reserves until 1960. In high school he meet the former Betty Jean Rainear who he married, after servicing in the Marines, on June 19, 1954 at St. Eulalia Catholic Church, Coudersport. She preceded him in death on May 12, 1997.
Eppie worked with his father at Lacher Plumbing & Heating in the Third Street basement location in Coudersport until 1961 when a fire consumed the building. They moved the business to 215 Main Street and He eventually bought the business and operated it with his wife until he retired in 1997. He enjoyed the rest of his life spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Eppie had a very diverse life. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, a member of the church council until its closing, and a member of the Coudersport Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Coudersport and Roulette Chamber of Commerce, He was past President, Assistant Chief, and a life member of the Roulette Fire Department, He was a sixty-six year member of the American Legion, Potter Post 192, and a member and past President of the Roulette Alumni Association. He was also an avid Pittsburgh Steeler and Pirate fan much to the chagrin of his wife, who was an avid Phillies fan.
Eppie is survived by two sons, Alan (Judy) Lacher of Roulette; Thomas (Debra) Lacher of Olean, NY; two daughters, Sandra (Duane) Fry and Susan (Perry) Hooftallen both of Roulette; a brother, Andrew (Karen) Lacher of Columbus, OH; a brother-in-law, Robert (Judy) Rainear of Charleston, SC; a sister-in-law, Emily Lacher of Doylestown; 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, a great great grandchild, a close friend, Dorthea Jones and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Eppie was preceded in death by a son, David Andrew Lacher and a brother, Richard Lacher.
A celebration of Eppie’s life will be announced at a later date, a burial with military honors will be held at the convenience of the family.
