Leo Charles Robbins, Jr.

Leo C. Robbins, Jr., 86, of Coudersport, passed away on March 14, 2018 at Sweden Valley Manor in Coudersport. He was born on December 6, 1931 in Hornell, New York, the son of Leo C. Robbins Sr. and Margaret Howe Robbins.  On May 21, 1955, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Coudersport, he married Gayle Benson who predeceased him on March 3, 1999.

Surviving are a son Scott (Lorrie) Robbins from Cary, NC and a daughter, Kathy (Scott) Wagner of Coudersport. Also, four grandchildren, Tyler (Cori) Wagner of Coudersport, Trevor (Jenna) Wagner of Olean, NY, Benson Robbins of Denver, CO and Cagney Robbins of Pittsburgh, PA;  two brothers, Ralph (Jean) Robbins of Alexander, NY and David (Barbara) Robbins of Rochester, NY.  Additionally, eight great-grandchildren, Levi, Liberty, Eli, Addasyn, Owen, Lydia, Tristyn and Rylee.

Leo worked for over 30 years as a meat cutter in area grocery stores and served as a volunteer fireman, becoming 1st Assistant Chief under John E. Pekarski in the 1970s. He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict including time aboard the USS Terrebonne Parrish (LST 1156).  Fifty years after his service, he attended the ship reunion, renewing old friendships and building new relationships to help commission a mural in Houma, LA to honor the service of his shipmates.

Leo served his country and community, was a faithful and supportive husband, father and friend. He was especially focused on the value of education for his children. He will be remembered and missed greatly by his family and friends.

There will be a viewing on Saturday, March 24, 2018 from 11AM to 1PM, followed by a 1:00PM funeral service at the Thomas E. Fickinger Funeral Home, Ltd., 210 North East Street, Coudersport.
