John Petroski

March 24, 1943 — August 15, 2025

John J. Petroski, 82, of Coudersport, passed away August 15, 2025 at Sweden Valley Manor following a brave battle with cancer.  He was born March 24, 1943 in Philadelphia, PA to John and Fannie (Szlachta) Petroski.  He graduated from high school, served two years in the US Army, and worked in many vocations, ultimately with Pure Carbon in Coudersport.  John’s love for the outdoors brought him from Philadelphia to first Cameron and then Potter County where he hunted, fished, gardened and just generally enjoyed nature.  John enjoyed music, both playing it (and he played many different instruments), and listening to it, especially the blues.  He wrote poetry, and liked reading books and documentaries on history.  John had been a member of the American Legion.

Surviving are four sons:  John Petroski (Angela) of Coudersport, Andy Petroski (Kelli) of Sarasota, FL, Josh Pertoski (Raquel) of Cockeysville, MD, and Zak Petroski of Harrisburg; nine grandchildren:  Brittany, Johnathan, Brandon, Kayla, Dakota, Melanie, Kaitlyn, Lyndsay, and Ainsley; and four great-grandchildren:  Damien, Vladimir, Hunter, and Jasper.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter:  Jessica Petroski, and a sister:  Joan Scholes.

Friends and family are invited to pay tribute to John’s life at his memorial service 1pm Wednesday August 20, 2025 at the Thomas E.
