Jack D. Halloran

July 21, 1941 — September 12, 2023

Jack Halloran passed away on September 12, 2023 at the age of 82. He was born on July 21, 1941 in Coudersport, PA, to Virginia (Mitchell) and Howard Halloran. He excelled as an athlete at Coudersport High School. He graduated from Mansfield University in 1963 and embarked on a career in education. Jack taught high school in Ulysses, PA, before marrying Allyn Sue VonNieda Aug 5, 1967. They relocated to Fullerton, California, where he continued as a teacher.

In 1972, Jack returned to Coudersport and assumed the helm of the family's hardware business. For three decades he ran Halloran's Hardware, a Main Street fixture, leaving a lasting impression on countless hunters, visitors, and the community.

To his family and friends, Jack was larger-than-life. His infectious humor, generosity, and storytelling ability was captivating. He relished life's pleasures: golf, hunting, fishing, gardening and a frosty beer. He cheered for the Steelers, Bills, and Notre Dame football teams. He was a member of St. Eulalia Catholic Church and a proud 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. Jack's community involvement extended to founding the local volunteer ambulance association and block grant committee. He also donated time to the library fundraiser and was a member of Potter County Recreation, Inc.

He loved taking cross-country adventures by car, navigating back road "shortcuts" to destinations and surprising friends and family with a visit. He had a knack for finding great restaurants wherever he roamed. He explored the globe, holding special memories of great trips with friends, a family heritage trip to Ireland with his father and brother, and a return visit there with his son. During retirement, he operated a B&B in Panama, endearing himself to locals who called him "Papa Noel" (Santa Claus). He spent many wonderful winters in Costa Rica with family. Throughout a three-year battle with cancer, Jack's sense of humor, optimism, and faith remained intact.

Jack was a loving husband to Sue and a great father to Carrie (Larry) Seesholtz, Casey (Keyra) Halloran, and Cailey (Jason Ferguson) Halloran. He was a cherished grandfather to Maya Seesholtz, and Jack and Valeria Halloran. He leaves behind beloved sisters, Mary Larsen and Georgia Merrick, and many nieces and nephews whom he adored. Jack was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Tom Halloran.

A celebration of Jack's life will take place in Coudersport next year. His final resting place will be in Woodland Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to 109 Locust Street. Memorial contributions can be made to the Coudersport Ambulance Association, 122 Second St., Coudersport, PA 16915.
