Irvan “Bud” Brown, 97, of Coudersport, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2015. “Bud” as everyone knew him, was born on October 26, 1918 in Lloydell, Pa, Cambria County, the son of Joseph and Agnes Boucher Brown.
Bud graduated from The Pennsylvania Stat College with a two year degree in Agriculture in 1939 and spent his life working as a farmer, employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, and working for various other private, state and federal firms and agencies. He moved to Coudersport in 1953. He was active in the Catholic Knights of Columbus where he was a 4th Degree Knight. He was also active in Rotary Club International where he represented the club at local, state and international activities. He was a scoutmaster with the local Boy Scouts, a member of the Potter County Historical Society, leader of area 4-H clubs, an officer in the Upper Pine Creek Council of Governments and served as Potter County Planner.
His hobbies included wood carving, local history, wood cutting, stone work, genealogy, tramp art, antique tools, and his greatly cherished Farmall A tractor. Bud was active in the North Central Pennsylvania Slovenia Polka Booster Club and was instrumental in arranging Polka Masses at St. Eulalia’s Church. Bud was an avid traveler. He visited many American states as well as numerous international locations including Slovakia, where the Brown/Buranowsky family originated.
Bud is survived by his wife of 72 years, Helen Beyer Brown of Wilmore, Pa, Cambria County. Bud and Helen had eight children, Irvan Jr. of North Carolina, Dennis (deceased), Ronald of New York City, Irene of Lebannon, Pa, Harold of South Carolina, Bernadette of North Carolina, Carolyn of Mehoopany, Pa, and Christopher of Arkansas, thirteen grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. Bud is also survived by a sister, Rita Brown Lucas of Edinboro, Pa and Richard Brown of Florida.
Bud was a long-time member of St. Eulalia Catholic Church where he served a head usher and created the wooden cross over the main entrance of the church. A receiving of family and friends will be held Sunday, December 20, 2015 at Thomas E. Fickinger Funeral Home from 5-7pm and Monday, December 21, 2015 at St. Eulalia Catholic Church from 10-11am. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 21st at 11am with burial at St. Eulalia Catholic Cemetery in Coudersport. Memorials may be made to St. Eulalia Catholic Church, 6 E.
