Hilda E. (Motz) Franklin

Hilda Emma Franklin, 89, a long-time resident of Coudersport, also having resided for several years in Montrose, died peacefully in her Coudersport home surrounded by her family, Tuesday, March 21, 2017.

She was born November 13, 1927, in Philadelphia, daughter of the late Carl and Maria  “Lena” ( Hertenberger) Motz. On March 15, 1952, she married Wilbur “Bud” Franklin, who  preceded her in death.

She is survived by two sons, Randall C. “Randy” Franklin and William P. “Bill”

(Tina) Franklin, both  of Coudersport. She is also survived by three grandchildren,

Christopher (Heather) Franklin, of Little Genesee, NY, Brett Franklin, of

Coudersport, and Janelle Kelley, of Coral Springs, FL, four great grandchildren,

Amanda, Sarah, Nathaniel and Ariana, two great-great grandchildren, Caden and Carli, and a sister inlaw, Lee Motz, of Philadelphia, along with several nieces and

nephews.

She graduated in 1948 from the Abington Hospital School of Nursing as a

member of the United States Cadet Nurse Corps. After moving to Coudersport in

1967 from Furlong, Bucks County, she and her husband owned and operated the

Old Hickory Hotel,  Tavern and Bowling Alley. After selling the Hotel and Tavern,

she re-entered the nursing field in 1972 to become a night-shift charge nurse in

Obstetrics at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital, until her retirement in 2005. She was a member of  St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Carl Motz, daughter in law, Loretta (Pekarski) Franklin, grandson, Specialist Michael W. Franklin, and grandson in law, Staff Sergeant Lawrence Kelley.

A private internment will take place in Eulalia Cemetery at the convenience of

the family. If desired donations in her memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Hilda’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the Potter

County Hospice nurses for their care and compassion at this most difficult time.
