Doris Wilkinson Mosch, 89, of Coudersport, PA died on May 11, 2016 at Cole Memorial Hospital.
She was born on October 20, 1926, sixth of seven children to Paul and Grace Wilkinson and grew up in Williamsburg, PA where she graduated from high school in 1944. She then worked for one year in the main office of the West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company. The next year she enrolled at Indiana Teacher’s College ( now Indiana University of PA). She received a BS in education in 1949 with a major in business education. Doris was hired as a business education teacher by Coudersport High School where she taught from 1949-51. She also worked as a substitute teacher from 1963-85.
On November 23, 1950 she married Dr. George C. Mosch. They were married 63 years. Doris is survived by five of her children: Barbara E. Mosch (Greg Stoicheff) of State College, Steven P. Mosch (Deborah) of Savannah, GA; Amy M. Boardman (Tom Buttery) of Galeton, Sally Fowler (Todd Hilliard) of Coudersport, Luke A. Mosch (Debra) of Lancaster, PA, 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren with 1 more due in August. Those who preceded her in death were her parents; her husband, George C. Mosch; son; Jeffry C. Mosch; 3 brothers; and two sisters.
While raising their six children, Doris was active in the community. She served as a Camp Fire Girls leader and Cub Scout Den Mother for several years and was active in PTA. At the Presbyterian Church of Coudersport, she was active in the Women’s Group. There she served as Clerk of Sessions for 23 years, as Elder on Session for 6 years, taught children’s and adult Sunday School classes as well as intermittently teaching the Bethel Bible Study. Doris was also a member of the choir and organizer of special church dinners for several years.
Doris served on the Coudersport Community Recreation Board, the PA Lumber Museum Board, Coudersport Public Library Board for 10 years, and was a member of the Potter County Historical Society. She was a representative from Coudersport to the Potter-Tioga Library Board for 5 years and a member of a local book club.She spent many years volunteering for the hospitals women's auxillary and attending (club) with her dear friends
One of her great achievements was raising their six children so that her husband, Dr. George C. Mosch was able to devote himself full-time to his 50 years of family medical practice. After he retired, they enjoyed more time sharing in children’s and grandchildren’s activities and achievements. Her hobbies included reading, cooking, dancing, walking and gardening.
A receiving of friends and family will be held Saturday, May 14, 2016 from 12-2pm at the First United Presbyterian Church, 402 North Main St., Coudersport, PA. A memorial service will follow at 2pm, Rev. Evon Lloyd officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Presbyterian Church of Coudersport or the Coudersport Public Library in memory of Doris W. Mosch.
