Daniel J. Cowburn

Daniel J. Cowburn, 56, of Coudersport, passed away Friday, October 4, 2024, at Olean General Hospital. Dan was born on June 1, 1968, in Wellsboro, the son of the late Katherine (Matteson) “Mimi” MacCartney and his father figure Richard “Poppy” Matteson.

Dan was a graduate of Coudersport High School and an Army veteran. He worked for many years in the natural gas industry as an inspector. He was a star athlete and enjoyed: athletics, music, golfing, fly fishing, the outdoors, and spending time with his family. Dan was a foodie and an avid Notre Dame fan.

Dan is survived by his wife, Denise M. (Loth) Cowburn of Coudersport; a son, Dirk A. (Karli) Cowburn of Coudersport; a daughter, Delanie J. Cowburn of Dayton, OH; brothers, Jason R. (Sherry) Cowburn of Hughesville; Ryan W. (Kacey) of Indiana; and grandchildren, Kensleigh, Khazlyn, Micah, and Trace Cowburn.  In addition to his mother, Dan was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Richard “Poppy” and Doris “Graun” Matteson. He also had many special relatives, including: James "Mac" MacCartney, Jarett MacCartney, Darren MacCartney, Brandon MacCartney, Todd MacCartney, Richard (Deborah) Cowburn, Chad Cowburn, Matthew Cowburn, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.

A graveside service celebrating Dan’s life will be held Saturday, October 12th, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Sweden Hill Cemetery, Coudersport. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Coudersport Golf Club at 2 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dan’s name may be made to the Coudersport Sports Booster Club, c/o Coudersport High School, 698 Dwight St., Coudersport, PA 16915.
