Beverly (Bev) Baker, 85 of Coudersport, PA passed away December 8, 2016 at Sweden Valley Manor. Bev was born in Blossburg, PA on March 2, 1931, the daughter of Basil A. Freeman and Katherine Procto Kolodeg Freeman. On April 12, 1952 she married Charles Frederick Baker in the Methodist Church in Coudersport. Bev was a graduate of Coudersport High School class of 1949. She was a member of the Park United Methodist Church. While in high school she worked at the former Mackey’s Restaurant as a waitress. She worked at a variety of jobs before beginning a career with what was then the First National Bank and later became the Commonwealth Bank. She served in several positions: teller, book keeper and loan officer, retiring in 1993. In her younger years Bev was a good golfer, winning several tournaments at the Coudersport Golf Club. Upon the death of her sister Jean, Bev and Fred served as surrogate parents to Jean’s four children.
She is survived by two special nieces: Susan Hess and Carol Macartney, a brother: Basil Freeman of Port Allegany, a sister-in-law: Janice Freeman of Coudersport, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband, sister Jean Haskins, brother Tom Freeman, and niece Cathie Haskins.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas E. Fickinger Funeral Home, 210 North East Street, Coudersport. Bev’s visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5-7pm Monday, December 12 and 10-11am Tuesday December 13. Funeral and committal services will follow at 11am with Rev. Scott Ogden officiating. Burial will be at Sweden Hill Cemetery.
