Bertha Francis (Hartman) Bender

Bertha F. "Birdy" Bender, 68, of Coudersport, passed away Thursday August 1, 2024, at UPMC Cole. She was born November 18, 1955, in Reading, PA to Elmer and Mary (Katzin) Hartman, III. Birdy tended bar at the Mt. Zion Firehall, and enjoyed playing bingo, card games, going to the casino, and fishing. When she was younger, she loved to draw, jump rope, hula hoop and dance. Birdy is survived by a daughter: Janet Louise Gerner of Lebanon, PA; two sons: Jerry Lee (Elizabeth Pygon) Bender of Jonestown, PA, and Edwin George (Tracy Sanders) Bender, Sr. of Bethel, PA; six grandchildren: Harley Shayne (Dakota) Ruef of Westfield, Hunter Clayton-John Waltz, Dana Jessica (Ryan) Paris of Myerstown, PA, Amber Dawn Bender of Bethel, PA, Edwin George Bender, JR. of Bethel, PA, and Emileigh Francis Bender of Bethel, PA; two great-grandchildren: Bradley Cole Waltz of Annville, PA, and Hendrix Donnie Yeager of Bethel, PA; three brothers: Elmer E. (Susan) Hartman of Westfield, Edwin E. (Sandra) Hartman of Ovid, NY, and Henry K. (Rebecca) Hartman of Geneva, NY; two sisters: Mary Jaskolka of Geneva, NY and Marilyn J. (Ronald) Henry of Ocala, FL; several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews; and her cat Nala whom she loved to spoil with toys and treats. She was preceded in death by her parents. Friends and family are invited to pay tribute to Birdy's life 10am-11am Thursday August 8, 2024, at the Thomas E. Fickinger Funeral Home 210 North East Street Coudersport, PA.
